The University Grants Commission (UGC) conducts the National Eligibility Test (NET) twice a year, in June and December, across eighty-five subjects to determine eligibility for Assistant Professorship and the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). The examination is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in a computer-based test mode and is divided into two papers: Paper I and Paper II. Paper I is common to all subjects, while Paper II focuses on the candidate’s chosen discipline, such as Mass Communication and Journalism. The test comprises a total of 150 questions, fifty from Paper I and one hundred from Paper II, to be completed within three hours. There is no negative marking, and each question carries two marks, making a total of 300 marks.

Exam Pattern
Each question carries two marks, and there are total of one-hundred fifty (150) questions, making a total of 300 marks. There is no negative marking, so students are encouraged to attempt all questions. Additionally, there is no break between Paper I and Paper II; students must attempt both papers consecutively in a single sitting.
